Avril April 2005

Château Pontet-Canet,   Pauillac 2004

92-94 points

A beautiful wine with lots of blackberry and currant. Hints of toasted oak and fresh mushroom. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long finish. This shows really well. Very ripe. Serious. Long and in harmony. The owner says that this is some of the best Cabernet Sauvignon he has ever harvested, and it seems to be true. 65 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 4 percent Cabernet Franc, 2 percent Petit Verdot and the rest Merlot. -- J.S.
